Hyde Park Joins the Ranks

Bed bugs are not choosy, my friends. It doesn’t matter to them if they live in Lincoln Park or Lincoln Square, Humboldt Park or Hyde Park, Woodlawn or Lawndale, so long as they have warm human blood to feed on and a safe hiding place to crawl into when they’re full. And so the saga continues, according to the Chicago Maroon, in a neighborhood famous for housing a little institution we call the University of Chicago:
Last week, MAC Property Management made a payment of $736 to Smithereen Pest Management for extermination and prevention of bedbugs in a Hyde Park apartment complex that houses at least 30 University students.
Bedbugs… until the 1940s were “a fact of life,” according to David Harris-John, vice president of Smithereen Pest Management.
In a neighborhood near Hyde Park… Harris-John said employees are waging a war 40 hours per week to eradicate the pests from 400 units in an apartment tower.
Yeah. We’re not just blowing smoke around here, you know. So, about that petition…
