Advocating policy to control the spread of bed bugs in the City of Chicago

Chicago vs. Bed Bugs

Quote of the Year

Well, not really, but it’s great.

On Friday, biologist Bill Schutt, author of Dark BanquetAll about blood and blood-feeding creaturestold MSNBC science editor Alan Boyle

“Within the next two or three years, bed bugs are going to elbow termites and roaches out of the way to become the No. 1 pest in the United States.”

Chicagoans, this ain’t no joke.  Tell your friends, tell your family, tell your neighbors, tell your dogs.  Tell them to brace themselves, because pretty soon, we’re all going to be dealing with bed bugs.

So, anyone want to help us make sure the City of Chicago gets good bed bug policy in place (say, with maybe a joint task force and city-mandated protocol for controlling/eliminating bed bugs, a procedure for reporting and tracking infestations, an ordinance that explicitly states landlord/tenant responsibilities, etc.) before the *&#@ hits the fan?

I’m smiling as I type.  I LOVE this quote.  It’s just so true, and so many people need to hear it!

    Right!

But, you know, I’ll believe it when Catherine Chalmers does a bed bug project!

It’s one of those on the one hand it will be good to have all that research attention, but then again, it is bed bugs we’re talking about… I can’t imagine what it will be like to live in a society where they’re everywhere. Scratch that, I can. :(
